SLOTH
A CINEMATIC EXPERieNCE
AUGUST 2025
A Meditation on Stillness, Avoidance, and the Weight of Inaction
In this chapter of deiSogni, we descend into the realm of Sloth, the quietest yet perhaps most haunting of the deadly sins. Virgil guides us in a cinematic lens, the experience follows the story of Carmelo, an older man reflecting on a past self suspended in indecision—unable to move forward, unable to let go. Trapped in emotional stasis, Carmelo’s relationships wither not from malice or conflict, but from neglect, passivity, and delay.
CINEMATIC PORTRAIT EXPERIENCE
The Cinematic Portrait Booth serves as both a physical and psychological space for self-reflection, mirroring the passive stillness associated with Sloth. Inspired by Warhol’s Screentests, where subjects were filmed in long, unbroken takes, participants are invited to sit still in front of the camera, engaging in a quiet act of self-observation. This is not a typical portrait session; it is a slow portrait, where time expands and forces contemplation. The booth asks the participants to pause and sit with themselves in a way that might feel unnatural, unsettling, or even uncomfortable—like the weight of inaction.
